Old Fashioned Bubble Gum

Common brands
One of the most common brands of old fashioned gum is Chiclets. These were named after "chicle", one of the main ingredients in gum. They come in a box and are shaped like small squares with a hard outer coating. Another common brand of old fashioned gum is Big Roll. This gum was common in the 1950's and consists of one long strand of gum wound around itself.
Unique varieties
There are many unique varieties of old fashioned gum that are nothing like today's candy. Freshen Up gum has a burst of gel-flavor in the center of each piece. Bubble gum cigarettes and cigars were also common in the 1950's before smoking became taboo. Clove Gum came in sticks and was flavored with real cloves. This variety is still seen in many candy stores today.
